Extending Exhale

We return to this simple yet powerful practice this month: the Extended Exhale. A breath that invites the body to slow, the mind to soften, and the nervous system to settle.

In a world that often asks us to do more, hold more, and move faster… this is your invitation to release.

The Power of the Exhale

While the inhale invites energy in, the exhale is where the body lets go.

Lengthening the exhale signals safety to the nervous system, activating the parasympathetic response- the place of rest, digestion, and restoration.

It’s the body’s natural way of saying:
You can soften now.

With each extended exhale, we gently release tension, quiet mental noise, and create space within.

How to Practice Extended Exhale

Find a comfortable seat or place one hand on your heart, one on your belly.

Option 1: 4–6 Breath
• Inhale through the nose for 4
• Exhale gently for 6

Option 2: 4–6–7 Breath
• Inhale through the nose for 4
• Pause softly at the top for 6
• Exhale slowly for 7

Move through a few rounds, letting the breath stay easeful and natural. If the counts feel like too much, simply focus on making your exhale a little longer than your inhale.

Weaving It Into Your Day

This breath can meet you anywhere:

• Before a conversation
• In moments of overwhelm
• At the end of your day
• While resting on your mat

Even one intentional breath can begin to shift your state.

May this practice support you in finding calm within the movement of your days, and space within your breath.

We look forward to breathing with you.
