How did yoga find you?

I thought taking a yoga class would be fun. I was a little worried my body was too far gone, that I  might not be able to keep up in class but I wanted to give it a try. The first class I took was “Restore” with Mindy Cassidy and it was kismet. I was hooked, it was the right class at the right time.   I’m still so amazed at how my body has responded to yoga, how I can move and bend in ways I thought were lost to me. While it’s no secret yoga helps with anxiety and stress it has been my lifeline during COVID. There is this commercial, I have no idea what they are trying to sell , but this guy says “I don’t do yoga to get better at yoga, I do yoga to get better at life”.  I couldn’t agree more. Life is just so much better when I go to yoga class.

What is your favorite yoga pose?

My favorite pose is the next pose, the one I have not done yet.

How long have you been practicing yoga?

I have been practicing for about a year and a half, 5 days a week. To quote a fellow yogi, “each class and each instructor is my favorite”.  Maybe the best part of yoga is the Nourishing Storm community.  COVID drove us out of the studio and into the park where we bonded over the weather, bugs, and soccer players and had a good time doing it.

What would you say to a student thinking about starting yoga?

Come to yoga with an open mind.  Leave all your preconceived notions and ideas at the door and just go with the flow. Try different classes with different teachers, and at different times of the day. When you take a class, BE in the moment.  It’s about intention not perfection.
