Yogi of the Month- May 2023

I joined NS in early January and while most New Year's resolutions are discarded as carelessly as they're conceived, I was determined to make mine stick. I wanted to take a more holistic and balanced approach to my physical fitness beyond just lifting weights, mainly I wanted to increase my flexibility.

Entering into Nourishing Storm I had a rough idea of what to expect but was still nervous as I had never taken a yoga class before and was a bit of a fish out of water. Any anxiety was quickly alleviated by the extremely warm and welcoming environment of NS. The teachers and students were so friendly and kind, I felt very comfortable after a few classes. While I have gained more flexibility, mainly in my hips and hamstrings, a very unexpected and pleasant byproduct of my practice has been the mental side of things.

After about a month of classes I felt an unexplained calmness as I would go about my day. It was subtle but noticeable, and I attribute it to the yoga classes. I think the name Nourishing Storm is very fitting because much how healthy food nourishes your body, I believe yoga nourishes your mind. Obviously being a guy doing yoga I am a bit of an outlier, but I encourage any guy that's on the fence to give it a try and reap all the benefits. You may have to deal with your ultra creative and supremely witty friends calling you such things as "yoga boy" but I believe the trade off is worth it.

Thanks to all the teachers and friends I've met at NS, I truly enjoy every class I get to take with you all and look forward to many more!
