Honor What you Have {Asteya}

March arrives like a soft exhale after winter—light returning, soil loosening, possibility stirring beneath the surface. At Nourishing Storm, we welcome this turning with a gentle invitation: Honor What You Have.

Our guiding wisdom this month is the Yama Asteya, often translated as non-stealing. Yet Asteya is less about what we take from others and more about what we quietly take from ourselves—rest we postpone, joy we defer, worth we doubt. When we live as if something is missing, we borrow against the present. Asteya asks us to pause that habit and come home to what is already here.

To support this practice, we’re working with Green Aventurine, a stone of the heart that carries the frequency of growth, optimism, and renewal. Like the first green shoots of spring, it reminds us that abundance is not something to chase, it’s something to tend.

Asteya as an Embodied Practice

Asteya invites us to notice the subtle ways we overlook our own sufficiency. When we compare, rush, or over-give, we step out of alignment with our truth. Practiced gently, Asteya becomes a way of honoring time, energy, and inner resources- choosing integrity over scarcity.

On the mat, Asteya might look like:

  • Taking the rest you need, without apology

  • Choosing presence over pushing

  • Listening to your body’s quiet yes and honest no

Off the mat, it might be:

  • Savoring what’s working before striving for more

  • Speaking kindly to yourself

  • Trusting that your pace is enough

Green Aventurine: The Stone of Gentle Abundance

Green Aventurine is often called a stone of opportunity, but its deeper medicine is trust. It encourages us to grow from where we’re planted—nourishing the roots we already have. Held near the heart, it softens fear and opens space for gratitude, reminding us that growth doesn’t require force.

Try carrying Green Aventurine during your day, placing it on your heart during rest, or keeping it nearby as a reminder to move with hope rather than hurry.

A Simple Ritual to Honor What You Have

You’ll need: a quiet moment, your breath, and (if you have one) Green Aventurine.

  1. Sit comfortably and place one hand on your heart.

  2. Inhale slowly, imagining fresh green light filling your chest.

  3. Exhale, releasing comparison, urgency, or self-doubt.

  4. Whisper (or think): “I honor what I have. I trust what is unfolding.”

  5. Stay for a few breaths, letting gratitude settle like warm soil.

Journal Prompts for March

  • Where am I already enough—without changing a thing?

  • What do I want to stop borrowing from tomorrow and begin receiving today?

  • How can I honor my energy this season with more honesty and care?

As we move through March together, may Asteya guide us back to wholeness, not through striving, but through reverence. May Green Aventurine remind us that growth is natural when we nourish what’s already alive within us.

Come as you are.
Honor what you have.
And let spring meet you right here.
